Grown as far back as the 16th century, black hollyhocks were originally used by French monks to treat various ailments like headaches and digestive issues. Over time these deep chocolate-red blooms made their way into English gardens, and became popular amongst aristocrats. History has it that black hollyhocks were even in the gardens of Monticello!

These classic upright growth perennials are said to reach up to 60", but the plants I harvested these seeds from were far taller than me (I'm 5'5"). Plant in Fall and Spring for blooms Summer through Fall, and in full sun to attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds, and other pollinators. Black Hollyhocks are drought and cold tolerant, as well as deer and rabbit resistant.

Planting Instructions: Directly sow seeds 1/4" deep, spaced 18" to 36" apart. Plant in direct light and give an average amount of water. Black Hollyhocks are hardy in zones 1-12.

Each packet was filled March 2024, and contains 20-25 seeds.
